Before I head off to China next week, I thought I'd resurrect the blog to talk about about some great restaurants and venues here in my hometown, which I have rediscovered the last 4 years now ( almost March 20 will be 4 years I've been back).
There's no way I recap 3 years in one blog (and that anyone would read it), so I'll just go with the several weeks starting at New Year's Eve!
Up on the Roof is possibly my favorite new downtown spot! Full disclosure, my sister is one of the managers, but I'm not alone in enjoying this venue. The views remind me of some of the places in Europe I lived and visited. On New Year's Eve they threw one of the best parties I've attended ( and I have been to some great New Year's Eve parties in Manhattan overlooking the "Ball" and with views of the Central Park Fireworks! "UP" was transformed into a circus, complete with fire-eaters, aerialists, balloon sculpture making clown, carnival games, free popcorn and other prizes and "swag". It was that night I discovered a new favorite drink the "new fashioned" . Since that night I have enjoyed some other dinners and a lunch at "UP" including their "Beer vs. Wine" dinner (Wine won the night, but really so did the quail and oysters); and recently their Valentine's Dinner which also featured quail, scallops (highlight), veal, Maine lobster tail and a shrimp pasta. All delicious, and a white chocolate torte to complete the meal. Also a family friendly spot, my four year old has enjoyed the sliders, fries and chicken strips. The burger with pimento cheese is also fantastic!
So much more! But I'll let the pics to the talking for now! Will send and write more in China!
